JUNE + BLUE
Rare Ait Bou Ichaouen find from late 1950's/early 1960's. Ait Bou Ichaouen hanbels of this age and style are few and far between, especially in such remarkable condition. It combines flat weaving and pile knots, as seen in the raised pattern throughout the rug. The background is made of horizontal flat woven stripes in shades of pink, mauve, mint, dark grey, red, and yellow. The raised pattern adds a second layer of texture to the rug, and uses the same colors seen in the striped background. The over all color of the rug has a muted pink tone to it.
Vintage Berber rugs were not made for production, but as functional pieces to be used for many years and passed down through generations. The colors and patterns are a combination of traditional Berber symbolism and the personal expressions of the woman who made it. No two are the same!
