JUNE + BLUE
Rare Beni Jelidassen mixed weave piece from the 1960's. Beni Jelidassen is a small tribe belonging to the larger Beni Ourain tribal confederation. They are particularly known for these flat woven textiles that feature bands of stripes, diamonds and zigzags in blue, orange and purple. The background is a natural pale cream color. It is rare to come by any sort of Beni Jelîdassen textiles, and extra special to find such a trademark piece! It is in excellent condition, with minor discoloration- part of it’s age appropriate patina.
Vintage Berber rugs were not made for production, but as functional pieces to be used for many years and passed down through generations. The colors and patterns are a combination of traditional Berber symbolism and the personal expressions of the woman who made it. No two are the same!
